is celebrated by the Adi tribe of Papumpare dist. A dance called Yakjong is performed during this festival. A feast is usually organised and children go from house-to-house collecting rice, meat etc. Families which donate are blessed. During the Aaran festival in the month of March, Adi youngsters perform the Pupir dance- a dance depicting love and respect for God.
Boori Boot
Celebrated by the Hills Miri tribe, falls in the month of February which lasts for three days or more. It is a religious festival.
Chalo Loku festival
Chalo Loku festival is annually celebrated with pomp and gaiety by the Nocte people, inhabiting the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh. They celebrate the festival with the prime objective of appeasing Rang God for their socio-cultural and socio-economic well being. According to them, this festival is closely associated with agricultural activities. It generally falls around 25th. November every year after the villagers have harvested the paddy and are free from all chores
Chingdang Festival
Chingdang is the main festival of the Mijis, which is celebrated for eight days, during the month of October. Deities are worshipped for the prosperity of the community.
Dree Festival
is celebrated by the Apatani tribe of Lower Subansiri district on 5th of July every year. Daminda is the dance performed during this festival. It celebrates the beginning of the sowing season - people pray for a good harvest and protection from natural calamities.
Khiksaba - Chokor - Torgya festival
Khiksaba is a harvest festival celebrated in the month of November or December for 7 days. Chokor is celebrated during the month of May/June. It is an agricultural festival.Torgya festival is also celebrated in end January. It is a monastic festival which lasts for 3 days. Its aim is to drive off evil forces, natural calamities and to usher in prosperity. Chham dance is the centre of all festivity.
Kshyat-Sowai Festival
A festival of the Khowas from West Kameng district is celebrated during December or January and lasts for ten days. This festival is celebrated with the help of the local priest at a special place called the ‘Suaiba’.
Losar
The New Year festival called ‘Losar’, is perhaps the most important festival of Tawang District in Arunachal Pradesh. The Losar festival of the Monpas is a New Year festival. On this occasion people clean out their homes to usher in the New Year. It usually falls in the latter part of February or early part of March and is celebrated with lots of fun and festivity and lasts for a fortnight.
Manau Poi Festival
Kacheng Aluwang is the traditional dance of the Khamptis of Lohit district performed during the Manau Poi festival in the month of February. This dance depicts their traditional way of receiving guests.
Mopin Festival
One of the groups celebrate Mopin for wealth and prosperity while the other for good health and universal happiness. Smearing of rice powder on each other’s faces marks the beginning of the festival which is celebrated for five days. This festival is celebrated in the month of April.
Nyokum Festival
is a festival of the Nyishi tribe of Upper Subansiri district. Rikhampada is the dance performed during this festival to honour God for bestowing prosperity on the people. This festival is celebrated in July.
Ojiyale
The Wanchos celebrate their most popular festival, Ojiyale during March-April, for a period of 6-12 days interspersed with prayer, song and dance. Villagers exchange bamboo tubes of rice beer as a mark of greeting and goodwill. Pig’s skin is offered to the village chief as a mark of respect.
Reh Festival
Reh Festival is one of the most important individual festivals celebrated by the Idus in the month of February. It usually begins from the 1st. This festival is so expensive that it can only be celebrated once or twice in a lifetime. It takes four to five years for a person to prepare himself for it. It is a six day old festival. Each day has separate names.
Sangken Festival
A festival of the Singphos, celebrated during March or April. The whole village gathers to play with water while bathing the idols of Lord Buddha. The celebration is similar to the ‘Holi’ festival.
Si-Donyi Festival
is a festival of the Tagin tribe of Lower Subansiri district. A dance is performed by women during Si-Donyi as a prayer to God for bountiful crops. This festival is celebrated in the month of January.
Solung Eter Festival
is celebrated during the month of March/April. It is the main festival of the Padams. The dance performed during this occasion is known as Delong.
Tamladu Festival
Celebrated by the Taron and Kaman Mishmis of the Lohit district during the month of April. It is an agricultural festival.
